چکیده

The human eye, connected to the brain, gives people the possibility to immediately, automatically and exactly recognize one person from another. A main aim is obviously to “copy” this recognition mechanism of the brain and to use it as a means for face recognition. Since the human recognition happens through an automatic “authentication” of facial shape and features, this face study is totally Geometry-based. In order to formalize the anatomical facial features, many strategies may be used. This work collects various solutions. Particularly, a geometrical description of human face is here proposed as a survey. Some elements of Differential Geometry, such as the Coefficients of the Fundamental Forms, the Principal Curvatures, Mean and Gaussian Curvatures, the derivatives and the Shape and Curvedness Indexes introduced by Koenderink and VanDoorn are briefly defined and explained, and then used as descriptors for three-dimensional facial surface. Their behaviour on faces is classified according to some feedback parameters: similarity between different faces, sensitivity to noise, completeness and smoothness. Face is the most important part of human anatomy, and its study has many scopes. This survey may be used as a starting point for elaborating and implementing an algorithm for 3D facial recognition.

The Combinational Use Of Knowledge-Based Methods and Morphological Image Processing in Color Image Face Detection

The human facial recognition is the base for all facial processing systems. In this work a basicmethod is presented for the reduction of detection time in fixed image with different color levels. The proposed method is the simplest approach in face spatial localization, since it doesn’trequire the dynamics of images and information of the color of skin in image background. Inaddition, to do face...

3d Face Recognition under Isometric Expression Deformations

In this paper, 3D face recognition under isometric deformation (induced by facial expressions) is considered. The main objective is to employ the shape descriptors that are invariant to (isometric) deformations to provide an efficient face recognition algorithm. Two methods of the correspondence are utilized for automatic landmark assignment to the query face. One is based on the conventional i...

Boosting a Biologically Inspired Local Descriptor for Geometry-free Face and Full Multi-view 3D Object Recognition

Object recognition systems relying on local descriptors are increasingly used because of their perceived robustness with respect to occlusions and to global geometrical deformations. Descriptors of this type -based on a set of oriented Gaussian derivative filters -are used in our recognition system. In this paper, we explore a multiview 3D object recognition system that does not use explicit ge...

3D Face Recognition Using Range Images

This literature survey will evaluate face recognition algorithms based on range images of human faces. Range images have several advantages over 2D intensity images and 3D meshes. Range images are robust to the change of color and illumination, which causes a significant problem in face recognition using 2D intensity images. Also, 3D information from range images is much easier to utilize than ...
